The English Language and Translation Department at the Saudi Electronic University was established at the beginning of the academic year 1435 AH (2014) by the approval of the Higher Education Council in its 75th session held on 1/2/1435 AH, under Resolution No. (23/75/1435).

The department, which awards Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Diploma degrees in English Language and Translation, aims to be a pioneer in English language education and translation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is achieved through a specialized, high-quality program that adopts a modern scientific teaching methodology, distinguished by diverse teaching methods and the use of technology and modern educational tools across all program tracks and study levels. The program provides students with in-depth knowledge while also offering sufficient practical training in both written and oral translation.

A top priority for the English Language and Translation Department is to linguistically prepare its students, provide them with intensive knowledge, enhance their linguistic and cognitive competencies, and expand their cultural understanding related to the English language. This establishes a strong foundation for building communication bridges with English-speaking communities worldwide and equips students with exceptional skills and abilities in both written and oral translation.

Translation is the language of the world, knowing no barriers, and serves as a bridge that shortens distances between peoples and civilizations. Through translation, the paths of knowledge are illuminated, and wisdom is captured from all corners of the earth. Undoubtedly, translation is a fundamental pillar and a cultural activity essential for intercultural communication and the dissemination of knowledge and sciences. Therefore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given it special attention due to its paramount importance in all cultural and intellectual domains.

The English Language and Translation Department was established in 1435 AH (2014) by the approval of the Higher Education Council in its 75th session held on 1/2/1435 AH. It is the first Bachelor’s program in English Language and Translation in the Kingdom offered in a blended learning format.

The department offers the Bachelor’s program in English Language and Translation to male and female students across several university branches throughout the Kingdom, aligning with labor market requirements by preparing distinguished national cadres in various fields of translation. To reach the largest possible number of students, the program was made available in the 1447 AH academic year in a distance learning format, one of the most modern and flexible educational approaches. This format ensures commitment to achieving the intended learning outcomes, expands access, and promotes inclusivity in education.

The English Language and Translation Department is steadily working toward achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 by promoting and strengthening translation activities within the Kingdom. This ensures the enrichment of Arabic content by attracting and transferring leading global knowledge and sciences. The department also aims to enhance Saudi Arabia’s cultural role and showcase its civilizational identity worldwide, preparing graduates to be effective ambassadors of knowledge and national culture.
